Hewlett-Packard, Corvallis, OR
Systems Engineer, 2006 – Present:
Serve as Database Engineer for large format printing press business. Previously designed and implemented back-end
server infrastructure for HP Video Collaboration business. Servers were in 30 countries all connected
through the HP Video Exchange Network (HVEN).
Central servers ran Microsoft SQL Server 2005 in a mirrored and
clustered array. I built and tuned RedHat Linux servers running the proprietary code that orchestrated
the video conferences. A multi-site
Microsoft Active directory of my implementation was integrated with several
tools and products in the business including LDAP, OpenSSL
and f5 load balancers. Used HP OpenView to continually monitor and notify of
server problems. I collaborated with
R&D to build them VMWare ESX Based host servers
with iSCSI storage.
I often rolled new versions of Web-Apps to the servers like Tomcat and Jboss. I was working
as a contractor for all but the last year of this project when HP hired me as a
regular employee.
Hewlett-Packard, Corvallis, OR
Web-Ops Engineer (contractor), 2002 –
2006: Configured and monitored HP
servers and Cisco routers and switches supporting the HP Instant Share
business. The business handled the
upload of digital photos from customer’s HP cameras for storage and print
order. Here I also built and maintained
a Microsoft Active Directory that was integrated into HP OpenView and CiscoWorks. I
configured Cisco CSS load balancers to front Windows servers running IIS and
Apache web servers. I used both
Microsoft SQL and Oracle back end databases that used an HP XP disk storage
array managed by Legato Storage Manager. Oracle, in this case ran on HPUX 11i servers.
There Inc., Menlo Park, CA
Senior Systems Administrator, 2001-2002:
Assisted with the implementation and growth of a startup online entertainment
service. Company grew from 40 employees
to 80 in the year I was there. I
configured or built and configured at least on computer for each of those new
hires. I ran, configured and
punched-down the PBX system and interfaced with Qwest and other ISP’s for voice
and data circuits. I installed and
configured the first cluster of servers used for the service’s beta test to the
public.
